With his 2025 edition plane crash prediction, Old Moore gets another forecast correct as more plane tragedy unfolds.
In his prediction in the 2025 edition of Old Moore’s Almanac, unfortunately, Old Moore predicted that there would be more than one plane crash in the year ahead. And for anyone who has been following Old Moore’s Almanac for some time knows, when our soothsayer makes a prediction, there’s usually a lot to unpack, and it goes on to be a way more complicated issue than what it seems on the surface.
Plane Crash Prediction 2025 Edition
The 2025 edition of Old Moore’s Almanac, released November of 2024, Old Moore stated there would be more than one plane crash. So far, since the 2025 Almanac has been published, there have been an unusually high number of passenger planes that have met with a horrifying and tragic end.
December, 2024: Azerbaijan Airlines Crash
Azerbaijan Airlines Flight J2-8243, an Embraer ERJ-190, was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, with 62 passengers and five crew members. The plane crashed near Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan after reportedly being struck by a Russian air-defense missile while flying over a conflict zone near Grozny. 38 of the 67 people on board were killed; 29 survived.
The incident has sparked discussions about the safety of civilian aircraft in conflict zones.
December 2024: Jeju Air Crash, South Korea
Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, a Boeing 737-800 carrying 175 passengers and six crew members from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan, South Korea, crashed during a belly landing at Muan International Airport. The plane skidded off the runway, struck a concrete barrier, and burst into flames due to a suspected landing gear failure.
179 of the 181 people on board were killed, with only two crew members in the tail surviving. This was South Korea’s deadliest aviation disaster and the deadliest crash of 2024.
Investigations point to a possible bird strike or landing gear malfunction.
January 2025: American Airlines Regional Jet and U.S. Army Black Hawk Collision
A midair collision occurred near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport between an American Airlines regional jet carrying 64 passengers and crew and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter with three occupants. Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River.
All 67 people on board both aircraft were killed, marking the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster in over 15 years and the first fatal U.S. commercial crash since 2009.
Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad: June 2025
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick Airport, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India. This tragic incident, one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent history, occurred in the Meghani Nagar residential area, impacting a medical college hostel.
The flight carried 230 passengers and 12 crew members, totaling 242 people. 241 of the 242 people on board were killed, with additional casualties on the ground.
The plane struggled to gain altitude after takeoff at 1:38 p.m. local time, crashing less than a minute later, approximately one mile southwest of the airport. Video footage showed the aircraft descending slowly over buildings before erupting into a fireball upon impact. The landing gear remained down, an unusual occurrence during takeoff, suggesting potential mechanical issues.
Plane Crash Prediction: Is this the end of the Tragic Events?
While commercial aviation remains statistically safe, high-profile disasters underscore ongoing challenges, such as technical reliability, urban airspace risks, and regulatory oversight.
And of course, when Old Moore makes predictions, we also know that there will be a lot of talk and unfolding of a wider story over the year. Let’s hope that this is the last of a terrible period in aviation.
