Howth life: The mansion of Mary Jennifer Guinness has just hit the market.
Mary Jennifer Guinness was an English-born Irish socialite and member of the Guinness family. She married John Henry Guinness in 1959, and they had three children: Ian Richard Guinness, Gillian Sarah Guinness and Tania Caroline Guinness. Mary was a keen sailor and a member of Howth Yacht Club.
She died in 2016, and now her craaazy beautiful home is for sale. How beautiful? The mansion has a pool that turns into a dancefloor.
The gaff is a six-bed on a site with wide ocean and mountain vistas. It is this very mansion that Jennifer was kidnapped from in 1986.
Howth: Traumatic Memories
On that horrible night in 1986, a four-man gang armed with machine guns broke into said home. They bashed her husband over the head with a pistol. Then, they shoved poor Jennifer into the boot of a car.
Once at their safe house, they demanded a £2m ransom for her safe return.
In all, the drama lasted eight days. She was held at 5 different places around Dublin. At the time, ‘Jenny’ as she was known, had three kids and was 48.
She was finally rescued by armed gardai from a house on Waterloo Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin. This is after a six-hour stand-off.
Her three children inherited the house, and now it is for sale.
