On the SpaceX website, the company revealed a jaw-dropping strategic pillar. They will be utilising its massive Starship rocket for point-to-point terrestrial travel. SpaceX is promising to transport passengers anywhere on Earth in under 30 minutes.
What Does Point-to-Point Terrestrial Rocket Travel Mean?
For decades, the concept of space travel has been entirely focused on leaving Earth. However, SpaceX is turning this technology inward. Point-to-point terrestrial travel means using a suborbital flight path to move passengers from one coastal spaceport to another right here on Earth.
Instead of spending hours cruising through the heavy air of the lower atmosphere like a traditional commercial airliner, Starship will launch into the vacuum of space. Because there is virtually zero air resistance in space, the vehicle can achieve hypersonic speeds. This could be exceeding Mach 20, before re-entering the atmosphere and landing vertically at its destination.
