Will a Solo Niall Horan Eclipse the Success of 1D?
By Ruth Kelly
Niall Horan (or the Irish one from One Direction) is a household name all around the world. He is known to any Irisher who hasn’t lived under a rock for the last five years. Niall first came bursting into the lime-light when he auditioned for The X Factor UK back in 2010. Originally failing to get through to the Judge’s Houses, Niall was seen as too valuable to lose and, along with four other boys, was put in a group which was later named One Direction.
Anyone with a screaming teenager will know and be strangely fearful of One Direction. The band came third in The X Factor back in 2010 but that was only the start of their career. The band has had over a hundred number ones, sold out concerts worldwide and each member of the band has a net worth of 30 million dollars.
One Direction became the first ever band to have their first four albums debut at number 1 on the Billboard Charts. Niall is credited with having co-written a number of One Direction’s songs including ‘Story of My Life’ and ‘Night Changes’. I bet you didn’t know he wrote some of the songs, huh? So he’s not just a pretty face. He is good with a pen too.
After having captured the hearts of millions of girls worldwide the boyband announced they were going on hiatus from January 2016.
But here’s the news all crying pubescent girls need to know. Niall has recently been rumoured to be signing a solo recording contract with Syco Records and has supposedly been in the studio writing since the hiatus. This is good news for any Niall fans as he is expected to be back in the charts soon enough.
Will Niall be the break-out artist we didn’t really expect? BoyleSports seem to think so. So if you fancy a flutter on behalf of your screaming teen, here are the odds:
To have a UK Number 1 in 2016 – 6/4
To have a UK Number One in 2017 – 1/4
To release a song with The Blizzards before 2017 – 12/1
To duet with Rhianna – 11/4 (Has to be an officially released single)
One Direction to come back before end of 2016 – 11/2 (official announcement from band)
One Direction to play Croke Park in 2017 – 9/1
Niall is even one of those nice Irish guys you would let your daughter date. Since the split, Niall has been taking part in various charity events. Alongside pro-golfer Justin Rose, Horan set up the charity event ‘Horan and Rose Gala’ in aid of Cancer Research Teens and Kids. He is also set to be taking part in Soccer Aid2016 for UNICEF, playing a match against fellow bandmate Louis Tomlinson.
Will all that football help Niall with his solo career? I’m betting it will. I’m off for a flutter.
